suggested  supplements  by  trimester

Ideally, you should get nutrition from food. But, there are some nutrients that are difficult to get through food alone. Below are some supplements that may be helpful. You do not need to buy all of them at once. I have grouped them by trimester so you can just buy what you need when you need it.

IMPORTANT: This link is educational only. Please discuss any of these with me before you begin taking them to make sure you are taking what you need.

First Trimester (0-13 weeks)

  • Prenatal Vitamin If you are unable to eat the “whole rainbow of colors” every day, you may want to add in a  good prenatal. Thorne (my favorite), Mama Bird, Seeking HealthSmartyPants (if you are unable to swallow pills)

  • Methylfolate - 400-800 mcg daily if it’s not in your prenatal ThorneSmart Folate

  • Magnesium - 600 mg daily: Magnesium helps your muscles coordinate movement, keeps your digestion regular, and helps you sleep well Trace Minerals unless there is constipation then you want Natural Calm

  • Vitamin D3 6,000 IU daily: D3 boosts your immunity and is protective against viruses. It also supports your mood and may help prevent postpartum depression. Sunny Skies, Seeking Health

  • Vitamin B12 (if vegan) 2.4 mcgs: Thorne, Seeking Health

  • Vitamin C to help with immune support DACHA

  • Omegas (Fish/DHA) 1-2 capsules daily: Omega 3 helps your circulation, and supports your baby’s neurological growth. One Fish Two Fish

  • First Trimester Pregnancy Tea (follow label) I make this tea with organic herbs that will help with nausea and nourish your endocrine system.

  • Iron (if needed): Hemaplex, HematinicChlorophyllHello Vitality, Floradix

  • Probiotics: Probiotics are great for gut health and help you prevent a GBS infection.  Jarrow Fem-Dophilus

Second Trimester (14-27 weeks)

  • Continue with your prenatal vitamin, magnesium, D3, probiotics, fish oils, B vitamins, Vitamin C, and iron if needed.

  • 2nd /3rd Trimester Tea. I make this tea with organic herbs that will help with blood building and to support your liver.

Third Trimester (28-40 weeks)

  • Continue with your tea infusion, prenatal vitamin, magnesium, D3, probiotics, fish oils, B vitamins, Vitamin C, and iron if needed.

36 Weeks

  • STOP FISH OILS

  • Continue with your tea infusion, prenatal vitamin, magnesium, D3, probiotics, B vitamins, Vitamin C, and iron if needed.

  • Begin eating 6 Dates per day. Research on Dates indicates that they have a property that not only helps your body get into labor but also is preventative for bleeding in birth. Medjool Dates

Optional after 36 Weeks

  • Homeopathic Trio: Caulophyllum, Cimicifuga, Arnica I recommend these to help get your body ready for labor. If your labor needs a boost we use these in labor as well.

  • Red Raspberry Capsules 3 pills 3 times per day: Swanson

  • Borage Oil 1 oral & 1 vaginally: Amazon *If you have a history of cesarean, do not take these.
